Congrats Pixel- Pusher. I spent several months studying the High Road material myself. Aced all of my permit tests/ endorsements as well. I start school at the end of March. It will be nice showing up with Permit in hand as well as a completed TSA background check for HazMat. A lot less stress than cramming for the exam while at school. More time to concentrate on ALL of the other "stuff"

OWI:
Operating While Intoxicated
as well as a completed TSA background check for HazMat.
I missed that step... How do you get the TSA background check ahead of time?

I'm in Arizona. The way it works here is to take and pass the HM exam. Motor Vehicle Dept. Issued me paperwork and sent me to a company to be fingerprinted and pay an application fee. About $90.00. Background check took about 30 days. Got a letter from TSA confirming that I gad passed the STA. (Security Threat Assesment). When I pass the pre trip, backing, driving tests the HM endorsement will be on my CDL license.
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
- Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
- Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
That TSA background check is handled differently from state to state. In Texas we are able to get it done ahead of having the actual CDL , and then when it is issued the endorsement appears on your new hard copy license. In other states you will need to obtain the license first.

I just took and passed my CDL-A learner's permit, and obtained all possible endorsements.
The only thing I studied was the High Road Training Program">High Road program here on the website. I didn't even do the review questions for some of the sections; just read the material.

I look forward to digging into the cargo securement, logbook , and weight & balance sections now.

Logbook:
A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.
